We’re excited to announce a new class structure that will take effect from Thursday 3rd July 2025, with classes starting at 6:30pm. These changes are designed to support you and your dog through every stage of training – from foundations to advanced skills.

From September 2025, all classes except Puppy Skills will take place at Vogrie Country Park, Gorebridge on a Saturday morning at 10:30am.

Puppy Skills

For puppies up to 6 months old. This class focuses on confidence building, socialisation, and essential life skills using positive reinforcement. You’ll also learn how to manage common puppy behaviours like biting, jumping, and toilet training in a fun and supportive environment.

Starter Skills

Ideal for dogs new to training. Build a strong foundation in obedience, socialisation, and handling. Teach your dog to walk nicely on lead, come when called, and settle calmly.

Improvement Skills

For those who have completed our Starter class or have some basic training in place. Strengthen core behaviours with added distractions and duration. This class also prepares dogs and handlers for the Kennel Club Bronze Award.

Intermediate Skills

Build on your progress with training for the Kennel Club Silver Award. Work on off-lead control, longer stays, road safety, and polite greetings in real-world situations.

Advanced Skills

For experienced handlers working towards the Kennel Club Gold Award. Develop high-level behaviours such as relaxed isolation, emergency stops, send to bed, and distance control – with a focus on teamwork and reliability.

MDTC also offer existing members the opportunity to participate in Fun Agility, Hoopers and Social walks arranged in secure environments as further activities to take part in with your canine companions.

Hoopers Classes

Hoopers is a sport that all dogs can take part in whether they’re puppies, have mobility issues or are senior dogs, as there is no impact so it’s kind to joints.

Dogs navigate around a flowing course of hoops, barrels, and tunnels with the same excitement of agility without the jumps. This also makes it accessible for all handlers no matter their fitness level. Hoopers is focused on the ability of dog and handler to work together as a team so it’s a great bonding activity too. The classes are held on a Saturday morning in Vogrie Country Park.

Midlothian Dog Training Club

MDTC was established in 1986 and is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to responsible dog ownership.  We subscribe to force-free training methods and values now widely accepted as the most humane and the most effective way of teaching dogs to be our happy, confident, and well-behaved companions.
